Still trying to get over the weekends game with the All Blacks. I - TopicsExpress

Still trying to get over the weekends game with the All Blacks. I can now see why the ABs are back on top again. Pace skills, commitment and respect for the wallabies by teaching them a lesson on how to play test rugby. Lets hope the wallabies learn from the game. with the next game against the Boks in 10 days time, time is of the essence. Looking at the wallabies it is hard to understand how a team can have a 12 -12 draw 7 days earlier, but after a 40 min lesson on speed, pride and passion from the ABs, the game was already over. I am still not sure why coaches at this level put players who are not specialists in their position, against some of the best finishers in the world (Savia,Jane and Ben Smith)? Every time the All Blacks attacked and put the ball in behind the wallabies there was no urgency by the wingers to get back and help? Counter attack is a very hard part of the game to get right. And with players who dont have the knowledge and vision, its a loosing battle. Folau is a great attacking player who had a outstanding game. But with no support from his wingers, his impact was lost. The second half was a bit better but even with 2 quick tries the wallabies were always chasing the scored board as the 50 points was creeping up. Folau intercepted the ball and with only Barrett (who is a number 10) left to beat, he let himself down and the try went begging. Things to learn when 1 on 1! Always look around for your team mates. Change angle of running and keep the def guessing on what you are going to do. Step, swerve (goosestep)? You must get the def where you want him! Not visa versa as Barrett did. The game is always won up front, and the All Blacks forward pack showed be working like dogs around the field with the aggression and commitment that resulted in a cricket score for the wallabies. Amazing what a difference the ref play in a game? Last week it was the scrum, this week it was the breakdown. Next week? who knows. I would love to see the wallabies learn and grow. But the coaches need to allow the players to play the game and put specialist players in all positions. Boks will not be hard but the time is right for the team to move up the list. Combos and team work and basic simple skills and the rest is up to you. David
