Stirchley Park robbed of its plants but replaced thanks to community spirit. Stirchley Park, which is a secluded park just off Pershore Road between Iceland and The Co-op, was sadly robbed of its plants earlier this month. The park is run by members of the community, who call themselves Friends of Stirchley Park, they take pride in where they live and want to make the park a place to relax and have fun on a summers day. Friends of Stirchley Park (@StirchleyPark) tweeted on 12th June: The Friends planted 30+ shrubs in the spring So far 10 have been stolen, we have replaced them today. This does not include all the foxgloves of which none remain Sad that people do these things We aint got a lot of money.... Shortly after tweeting the two messages - Friends of Stirchley Park were inundated with messages of support and kindly given £50 from Kings Norton Farmers Market to replace the robbed plants. Friends of Stirchley Park’ Chairman, Peter Evans, said: “We take great pride in taking care of the Park. We’re rolling out a whole host of improvements with cash we were gifted on the back of the Stirchley Baths renovation project. but the replacement of plants is fast eating away at our funds . This week’s repeated theft of plants leaves us totally frustrated. The Park is a beautiful place for the people of Stirchley to enjoy. I’m absolutely gobsmacked at the support we’ve had from Twitter. There have been more than 200 Tweets since last Saturday and residents who care about the park have even donated real plants. ‘Friends of Stirchley Park’ will not give in. For every plant that’s stolen, we’ll plant another. I’ve planted a sign in the flower bed, appealing for the thieves to stop, but only time will tell if it makes any difference.” Please like the Stirchley Park Facebook for more information about the park https://facebook/stirchleypark?fref=ts or follow on twitter @StirchleyPark (Images: Stirchley News/Friends of Stirchley Park)
