Stirling Council choose ‘The World Is Gently Dying’ as a "Poem of the month". August poem of the month In January this year (along with three other Scotland based poets) I travelled to Iraq to help translate the work of four Iraqi poets, then showcase the work during the nationwide Reel Iraq Festival which ran from the 21st to the 25th March. The dates of the festival coincided with a residency I was offered at Raploch Library. Reel festivals agreed to bring the event to the Raploch Campus. Unfortunately Sabreen Kadhim was refused her visa and couldn’t make the British leg of the trip. This is one of her poems. However, if you’d like to meet Sabreen she’ll be at the Golden Hour event at this year’s Edinburgh International Book Festival on Monday the 19th August, 9pm.
