Strange feeling today. Took a few days at an Indiana lake after dropping son number two at Hilldale College. Spent early mornings finishing the final edit of Sasse Letters to Lutheran Pastors vol. III. I began collecting and translating these great letters over a quarter of a century ago. Many others joined in the effort over the decades. What Ive learned from Sasse of the Sacraments, the Scriptures, the sweep of history and the history of the church, Luther, the Lutheran Reformation, the confessions, the ecumenical movement, the early church, Roman Catholic history and theology, the German Kirchenkampf, the Prussian Union, New Testament Studies, the Religionsgeschichtliche school, Harnack, Holl, Deissmann, Bonhoeffer, Elert, Althaus, Procksch, Preuss, Meiser, Bultmann, Hermann Preus, JAO, Robert Preus, Erlangen, D.E.K., E.K.i.D., WCC, Faith and Order, etc., Pietism, Rationalism, Historicism, the 19th Century Lutheran Awakening, the Lutheran Free Churches, the SELK, the Scandinavian Churches, the Lutheran Church of Australia, Vilman, Loehe, Walther, Kliefoth, Loescher, etc. and a hundred others. And with Sasse theres always more. Thank you Paul McCain, Bruce Kintz and CPH for recognizing the extraordinary significance of Sasses work. Today Im thankful and near speechless at the blessings which are mine.
