Strother Field, KS (KWLD) is sacred ground to anyone involved with the Cessna 172. Its where our beloved high-wings were hatched from the 1950s to the 1980s, before production was moved to Independence Kansas. Strother Field has an FBO (B-Four Aviation) with lounge, internet, flying school, flight planning facilities, rental cars, and a restaurant (The Landing Strip) open for breakfast and lunch Strother Field is located 5 miles south of Winfield, KS and 5 miles north of Arkansas City, KS, 40 miles south of Wichita, KS and about 80 miles west of Independence, KS. Hundreds of 172s lined up on the ramp waiting to be flown away to happy owners across the fruited plain. Pretty awesome sight.
