Stubborn Hope Even if nothing lived here but ugliness I would go out each morning & record my summations Even if the sun covered herself with a wool blanket, I would search for pinholes of light I would not view the world with detachment but collect the one blade of grass left standing, the useless bird nests hanging from trees, and comfort the wet eyed fog always uncertain of where to go, what to do If nothing lived here but ugliness I would lift a large lamp up toward the trees to find the lone bird stranded on bare branches then whisper softly in hypnotic urgings for the soft small treble it had left to sing
