Stubby has a 3 cm (about 1) mass cell tumor in the area where the small intestine empties into the colon. There is also a lymph node thats about 3cm and his intestines are wound around the mass. All of this is past the area that my vet could see when he did the colonoscopy. Mass cell tumors have histamine in them and the Internist said that combined with the inflammatory intestines is where the bleeding is coming from. She said to give him an antihistamine and that would hopefully stop or drastically slow down the bleeding. He gets a Benadryl twice a day and has only been having a very small amount of blood in his stool the last few days. He was anemic when we took him to the vet last Friday and he put him on Pet-Tinic to build his blood back up. Hes still picky about what he eats but has had a good appetite since hes been on the vitamins. This morning he didnt want to eat much so I saved what was left over and will try again in a couple of hours. He wants to eat dirt which means that hes still missing something in his diet and his instinct tells him to eat dirt. Sissy did it too. Its like Pica in humans when they eat strange things. I am going to check to see if I can find him some editable dirt because thats supposed to have good minerals, etc. in it and may help his tummy. I asked the Internist how long she thought the mass had been there and she said probably not too long before we started seeing the blood in his stool. Im still optimistic but Im concerned about it being in a lymph node. MedVet emailed me a copy of the pathology report and there is no grade on it. I dont know if thats good or if they didnt get enough information from the needle biopsy. Hes at least 13 years old so at best he only has about 2-3 years left. The thoughts of losing him breaks my heart and we will do whatever it takes to keep him comfortable and happy but we will not put him through all of the things like we did with Sissy. Well know more once we see the Oncologist next Tuesday. I cant believe weve got another dog with cancer in the intestines. 😞
