Students in Mrs. Gonzalez and Mrs. Mercado’s class at Pre-K 4 SA - TopicsExpress

Students in Mrs. Gonzalez and Mrs. Mercado’s class at Pre-K 4 SA West jumped into the New Year with a study on fruits and vegetables. The project started with two children’s questions in December: what does a peach look like? Why are the seeds of blueberries so little? Students activated background knowledge with a web. Some students were able to recognize some of the fruits and vegetables, and some students mentioned that fruits and vegetables keep you from getting sick because they have vitamins. The class decided to work together to build a market in the dramatic area, and parents have been donating plastic fruits and vegetables and play money. The students have been exposed to different activities and experiments with fruits and vegetables to expand their knowledge and they have been visited by some experts in the field. They have been listening to fiction and non-fiction books related to the project as well. Also, the class participated in the Farmers Market Day from SELRICO where they were able to see a large variety of fruits and vegetables. They even got to purchase some produce! All activities are based on the PK Texas Guidelines to ensure students are acquiring the necessary skills.
