Students protest against fuel price hike KATHMANDU, MAR 14 - All Nepal National Independent Students Union (ANNISU-Revolutionary) organised a protest rally against the price hike of the petroleum products on Friday. Earlier in the day, a meeting of the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) board of directors had decided to hike the fuel prices citing the mounting loss due to rise in prices in the international market. According to the NOC decision, price of petrol has been increased by Rs 10 per liter and diesel and kerosene have been dearer by Rs 6 each. The protest rally begun from Tri-Chandra Campus and passed along Bagbazaar, Putalisadak, Padmodaya Campus road and converged into a gathering at Shanti Batika in the Capital city. The protest ors chanted slogans which read control corruption at NOC and control leakage at NOC. Addressing the protest gathering, Vice-Chairman of the ANNISU-Revolutionary, Jagrit Rayamajhi, demanded immediate roll back of the petroleum price hike . As per the revised rate, petrol will now cost Rs. 140 per litre, and diesel and kerosene Rs 109 per litre each. However, there was no change in the price of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). Currently, the NOC has been incurring a loss of Rs. 169.7 million per month. With this price adjustment, the NOCs losses would be reduced to 102 million rupees a month, said Officiating Executive Director, Sagar Satyal. Meanwhile, West Nepal Bus Entrepreneur Association has accused the government of giving an economic burden to the people by increasing the petroleum price time and again.
