Studio Tip: This one has helped me immensely over recent months. I now spend the majority of the time when Im writing OR mixing down with an EQ on the master bus that has a high pass around 120Hz and a low pass around 12kHz. Essentially cutting the extremities out. This has forced me to really focus on what is happening in the guts of the tune rhythmically and sonically without your ear (or in the case of sub your body) telling you to focus on other things. If sounds cut through with that filter on then they will blast through when you switch it off. It might be of no use to you, but for me this has been very helpful.
