Study Focus: Steps to Spiritual Maturity Topic: The disciples lifestyle (7) Sub-Topic: A lesson in priority Study: Luke 9: 57-62 Yesterday x-rayed our focus and our motives as it concerns our relationship with God, this is very important and by Gods grace we will repeat the lesson some other time. Today we are looking at verses 57-62. In the passage, some people desired to follow Jesus, others Jesus called them but they all gave one excuse or the other. They wanted to take care of something before following Jesus. However valid there excuse was, it was a misplaced priority. Is it not interesting that the same is happening to many of us these days? We will obey Jesus fully only after we have acquired what we want to acquire. We want that money first, that higher degree, that house, that car before we follow Jesus totally. Of what use are all those things to our eternal destiny? God desires that we have all good things of life but we must correctly prioritise. Matt 6:33 teaches us the right way to prioritise Seek ye first the kingdom of God and every other thing will be added... Is our focus not on the added things? If we will go on to a deeper walk with God, we must seek Jesus and his will first. Jesus concludes the lesson with a stern warning in verse 62 No man having put his hand to the plow, and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God. Prayer: help me Lord to set my priority right.
