Sturridge unsure about the No9 shirt. Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has ruled out the possibility of wearing the club’s famous number nine shirt next season, despite his stature in Brendan Rodgers’ side. Sturridge, 24, scored 21 goals for Liverpool in the Premier League last season and has been a phenomenal purchase from Chelsea in January 2013. He has scored over over 30 goals already and is set to become the club’s leading front man this season following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona. The Englishman took his domestic form to Brazil for the World Cup where he did well under the circumstances of playing under poor management in a squad being used incorrectly. He scored England’s first goal at the tournament during their defeat to Italy and played reasonably well in their other two matches. Since signing for Liverpool, he has worn the number 15 shirt and, despite donning the iconic number nine for England, he is not thinking about changing his shirt number at club level just yet. Iago Aspas’ departure to Sevilla has opened up the number nine for Sturridge to take if he wishes, but he’s happy with what he has right now. “It’s not important,” he said. “My name is Daniel Sturridge. I’ve got 15 letters in my name, and that number 15 has been good to me. I’ve never really been obsessed with specific shirt numbers. “When I was younger I wanted to be number 10, then number eight, but as you grow up, you don’t get to choose, you have to wait your turn. “I suppose now I am at the stage where I can select a number, but I don’t think I will take No.9 even if it is offered to me. But you never know,” Sturridge declared. Bootle
