Submitted to Apple Feedback: Hello, my name is Steve Landon, and I have been an Apple user since 1987 when my parents bought us an Apple IIgs for Christmas. Since then, I have exclusivey bought ONLY Apple or Apple compatible computers (Brief dalliance with Power Computing in the late 90s). This iMac may be my last. In 2012 I purchased an iMac i7, 3.4ghz, 2mb video card, 27 as my primary computer. My needs are pretty mild in all honesty, but I prefer the Mac over the PC operating system and until recently I had never had any significant issues with any I had ever owned. I decided to buy a computer that was far more powerful than I needed in order to make sure it would be a satisfying experience for as long as possible. Initially I as thrilled. I am not a huge gamer, but I bought this computer because it would be compatable with the most modern games of the time, and the ones that were not compatible with the Mac I would boot into windows. No big deal. I installed Borderlands 2 and Diablo III on my iMac and was able to maximize all the settings and run at between 40-60 frames per second. I got busy with other projects and began playing Star Wars: The Old Republic on the PC side since it could not be played natively on MacOSX. Several months ago I decided to revisit Diablo III and Borderlands on the Mac side. I had since installed Mavericks and now Yosemite. However, now I am seeing speeds as slow as six frames per second on Diablo III and an undetermined but also unreasonably slow frame rate on Borderlands 2. I installed Diablo III on the PC side to verify that it wasnt an issue with the hardware. Sure enough, Windows plays Diablo III perfectly fine. I then thought maybe my computer was bogged down with stuff and maybe I had to do a complete fresh install of the OS. I have since done complete wipe and installs of both Mavericks and Yosemite along with wiping of PRAM and the SMC controller. I have not restored anything from my back up drive and instead installed ONLY Borderlands 2 and Diablo to best isolate the problem. Even with completely day one fresh installs of the OS, Diablo III, and alternatively Mavericks and Yosemite, I am unable to get six frames per second. Online I tried to get some support from the community. Nobody seems to have any answers beyond Reset SMC, Zap PRAM, etc. It is claimed that the recent OSs versions of OpenGL are not as optimized as the PC drivers. On the Apple discussion forums (official forums) there are no Apple blessed answers to any questions regarding these problems. I am not the only one seeing these issues, yet there is silence. If Apple intended to fix the problems with Mavericks, I would assume that during the year and change that Mavericks was the preferred OS that Apple would have released fixes. In light of the inability for Apple to rectify these problems in the entire life of Mavericks, in addition to there being NO improvement in Yosemite, I can only assume that Apple does not intend to fix these problems. And that is ok. I have a computer that runs windows and windows games very well. However up until now I have been very happy with my Mac/Apple experience. What I am left with though is no incentive to upgrade this computer when the time comes to upgrade. If I (a 27 year Apple repeat customer) cant fix the problems even with a fresh install, how can I in good faith recommend a Mac to a friend as I have in the past? IIgs Mac IIsi Powerbook (Pismo) Power Computing tower (mac clone) Powermac G4 Powerbook Pro 15 Macbook Pro iMac 27 iPhone 2, 3s, 4s, 5s iPad Mini If I cant rely on Apple to support its 2 year old hardware? End of line. Im done.
