Subsidizing China: The Assembly today passed the New York Sun Act of 2014 which subsidizes the use of solar panels to the tune of $1.5 billion (that’s billion with a b). I support solar energy if it can exist without the massive government subsidies it has enjoyed for decades. Moreover, solar panel arrays often don’t generate enough electricity to cover their costs. Worse, The billions of dollars of federal, state and local subsidies are nothing more than corporate welfare for Chinese manufacturers. 85% of solar panels are made in China. The Assembly voted today to add a fee to your electrical bill so it can redistribute your money to pay other people to buy Chinese-made solar panels. This doesn’t make economic sense. I vote NO!
