Such stories of the triumph of the indomitable human spirit, overcoming Himalayan and seemingly insurmountable odds and reaching the pinnacle of glory in your chosen field or then sphere of influence not only serves to warm the cockles of the human heart, but also reinforces your long held and fond beliefs about your being able to do the same......... Lalita Babar a 25 year old resident of the debt ridden and drought afflicted Maan taluka of Maharashtras Satara District not only achieved the notable and utterly praiseworthy feat of annexing a triumvirate of titles at the recently held Mumbai marathon but topped off her cake by setting a new course record of 2 hours 50 minutes and 31 seconds amongst Indian women......... No stranger to considerable hardship and adversity, Lalita recalls buying her first pair of sports shoes for the apparently paltry sum of Rs. 1,200/- after being turned away from a national level track event way back in 2005........ Candidly and unabashedly admitting the fact that she had little or no knowledge of the presence of brands like Puma, Reebok and Adidas in the local markets back then, she says My first pair of sport shoes were manufactured by a local company called PAMA, set me back by then princely amount of Rs.1,200/- and caused a moon sized crater in my pocket............ The living embodiment of quiet human dignity, deity like patience, considerable poise and humility selflessly puts her family and loved ones before her as is her long standing habit and somewhat reluctantly reveals that the amount credited to her kitty as a result of her heady triumph will be optimally used to fund her youngest brothers further education......... Being the eldest amongst four siblings; Lalita opines funding and sponsoring my siblings education and well being is only part of my beholden duty, my parents went hungry on more occasions than I can even begin to count and bore considerable hardships with a grin so that I did not have to go hungry and experience the ignominy of a speed breaker or obstacle in my athletic career and I am only furthering their legacy by doing my bit for my siblings.............. Having achieved a trio of triumphs at the Mumbai marathon and other such national level marathons, Lalita has now set her lofty sights on the forthcoming Commonwealth and Asian Games and promises to bring back laurels for her country............ Heres wishing her all success in her future endeavours and more power to her elbow; ladies and gentlemen I give you Lalita Babar a role model for the aspiring Indian woman............
