Sugar is what sugar does... I posted a question earlier about what 3 letters if seen on a food label should be avoided. The answer is OSE. It stands for ingredients such as fructOSE, maltOSE, sucrOSE and glucOSE. The problem with these types of sugars is that they fall into the category of simple carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates are metabolized by the body at a much quicker rate then complex carbohydrates. This rapid rise of the glucose level in the bloodstream causes a couple of hormonal responses: increased insulin secretion and decreased growth hormone. Over time, this can eventually lead to weight-gain, suppressed immune system, kidney stones, elevated triglyceride levels, increased risk of diabetes and other chronic illnesses. The good news? There are healthy sweetening options available, but well talk about that some other time. For now, you might want read those food labels a little more closely, skip the sugar fix you may not have known you were getting, and stay as sweet as you already are! God Bless! -III---III-
