Sullys was one of Monte Rios most popular resorts in the early years of the 20th century. Located on the hill above the firehouse about halfway to Villa Grande, Sullys has a hotel and small cabins for couples. Located among redwoods, it was considered one of the top draws to the area. They had, first a wagon, then later, a truck converted into a small bus to accommodate guests arriving on the train. The Sully family donated the resort, by then shuttered due to the Depression, to the Catholic Church , who converted the old resort to Camp Imelda. Camp Imelda lasted at least into the 70s and was then closed and sold. The main hotel burned down a few years ago and the other cabins fell into decay. I dont know what happened since the hotel burned. The hotel was where the camp had its office and food service, and other functions.
