Summary of New England Fall Astronomy Festival, University of New Hampshire Oct, 17-18TH , Durham NH. Gloucester Area Astronomy Club; GAAC Despite intermittent showers on Saturday, NEFAF, was a resounding success. On Friday night, some 250 people of all ages were gathered in the main tent to hear a presentation given by Dr. Carolyn Porco, NASAs Imaging Science Team Leader for the Cassini mission to Saturn. Dr. Porco revealed a dazzling display of imaging pics that many had never seen before. Additionally, she offered some private comments exclusive to a strict scientific approach that touched on the sublime perspective one gets when realizing the vastness of space. Carl Sagans commentary concerning the pale blue dot was used as an example of such understanding. For those who would like to review that summary: see: bit.ly/1pz4Q11 The event was followed by Friday night observation .The Durham sky was a tad wet, but doable. The attending observers were quite amazed as Jim Koerth, myself and others from NHAS were able to penetrate a vapor-laden night-sky with views of the double cluster, M31, M13, the veil in Cygnus and Albireo. Saturday was intermittent with clouds and a few showers. Fortunately, Steve and Elaine, Jim, Michael and I were able to capture a few peek-aboo moments of the sun with three distinct sun spots visual across its 860,000 mile diameter. GAAC Member, Jim Bastable graciously lent me his German-machined Zeiss Binoviewers with a pair of 17Mm Orion Stratus doing the honors. What a marvelous 3 D effect. Mario Motta presented a lecture on Light Pollution as well a brief picture related discourse on his 36 Observatory. It was followed by many questions. GAACsters decided against staying for the Saturday night session as it was forecasted for inclement weather. It was then off to a local Durham restaurant for dinner and jocular conversation. Thanks to everyone. Patrick
