Summary of message on 10.11.13 at Living Gospel Church MIG BHEL God is calling us to be obedient. For the past few weeks, youth children were taught about obedience from the word of God. Whatever the situation it is, circumstances seem to be difficult, things go out of control, still be obedient to Him, since God is in control (sovereignty of God). If God is seen as gracious and neglect other attributes of God, we may think that we can do anything and God is there to take care of the situation, Lord is still gracious to us. Hence we need to study the word completely in all aspects and have complete understanding of it. However due to paucity of time, we may not be seeing every aspect and hence meditate bit by bit and still understand him and his word completely. It reminds me how word in the of God washes us as when I am washing of clothes which attracted dust and dirt. These dirty are soaked in water (preparation of heart), applied soap( word of God), agitated (work of the Holy Spirit), squeezed and rinsed in watet till the dirt leaves garment (our obedience and God’s work). contamination of water, with dirt and soap are indicator for prolonging the process of rinsing of garments. Asaph says, “Give ear o my people , to my law; incline your ears to the words of my mouth.” 1 And he continues in other verses about what they heard from their fathers. God established covenant with Israel and gave law, but their fathers were stubborn and rebellious and provoked God in wilderness and grieved Him in the desert. They turned back and tempted God and limited the Holy One of Israel. This resulted losing of blessings that God promised to them. It is not God who held these blessings but Israel lost them and roamed in wilderness for 40 years until, they were dropped in wilderness. Disobedience of man is seen right from the 1st man on this earth. God commands but man disobeys. From the beginning , till creation of New Heaven and earth, God kept blessings and curses to the man. In every dispensations, man utterly failed but for the Grace of God man would have not existed. Its only by the grace that we survive. If disobedience is so rampant even among children of God, we can understand how much it is with the wicked for example, pharaoh in said “Who the Lord (Jehovah ), that I should obey his voice to let Israel go?”2 Such is the stubbornness; stubbornness not to hear Him. If one don’t hear LORD what He says is, Judgment is certain. This we can see in lives of characters of Bible which we will limit our meditation though we can see countless examples outside the Bible. Adam and eve disobeyed God’s commandment of not to eat for bidden fruit and eventually died spiritually and physically – lost freedom, driven from Eden and entered in to conscience from innocence. Abraham, by faith obeyed God to go in to a promised land, but when there was famine, he took his own course and moved into Egypt and was about to lose his blessings but for the Grace of God. God spoke to Moses to speak to the rock before the eyes congregation of Israel but Moses and Aaron spoke to the congregation “Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses smote the rock twice..” Something we must know is, even if one do not obey God, His work will not stop. God gave water from the rock but Moses and Aaron lost entry into the promised land. 3 Through disobedience – Blessings are lost, children of Israel walked for 40 years in wilderness until they consumed in wilderness except two. God gave warning to Eli when his son’s were disobeying God. “Who honor LORD, he honors them and those who despise Him”. Consequences are terrible in the family of Eli. 4 Sign of the potter’s house was shown to prophet Jeremiah by the Lord, concerning disobedient Israel. Clay is in the potter’s hand, the spoiled vessel is made again. God is calling and come to him, to turn back else he may repent of the promise of doing good and frame evil against them. In Deuteronomy God placed blessings and curses before children of Israel. If one obeys his commandments they are benefited of the blessing of the Lord. Peter says not to be conformed to the world but commands or advises to be Holy for He is Holy and be like obedient children.5 God is giving testimony of Jonadab son of Rechab in Jeremiah Chapter 35. His commandments were obeyed by Rechab’s children for which God was pleased with them and blessed their generations. God is giving testimony of prophet came from Judah, who prophesied against king Jeroboam for which we reacted by raising his hand against the prophet. The hand of king dried up instantaneously. When king requested to pray for him and upon prophet’s prayer king’s hand was restored. After this event, God instructed prophet from Judah not to eat bread or drink water or go back in the same direction but in another way back to Judah. But this prophet heard lies from son of old prophet, he obliged his words instead of God’s instructions and eventually killed by a lion on his way. In the last verses of Isaiah chapter 42, we see how Israel’s first fathers were sinned against God and how curses have come upon their head and in first verses of chapter 43 of Isaiah, God calling Jacob for he want to redeem Jacob and he says fear not. Even in Psalms 78 we see similar promises of God for Israel, even though they were disobedient to Him. This very clear God is gracious towards His children. In Ephesians Chapter 2 we see that we were in darkness and in His mercy god lifted us from the depths of darkness and placed us in light. He expects us to shine upon this world, as in Mathew chapter. 5 “For we are light of the world, Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in Heaven. These things, God is revealing to us Psalms chapter 78, “That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments.” 6 1. Psalms 78:1 2. Exodus 5:2 3.
