Sunday 17th August 2014. Im playing the waiting game again - TopicsExpress

Sunday 17th August 2014. Im playing the waiting game again which means little in the way of treatment apart from occasional top ups of blood and platelets, just the crushing boredom of day after day waiting for my body to recover from the onslaught of chemicals. Its now day 7 since my last chemo and levels are rock bottom. The doctor reckons 20 days to begin recovery so I can look forward to at least another 2 weeks stuck in the cell that is my room. Very quiet this weekend as my family are all down in Norfolk for a gathering at Alburgh House, a small stately home belonging to my sister in law, Cara. I would normally be worth them to enjoy a fantastic fortnight in the beautiful Norfolk countryside but alas.......... Had a few visitors this week. Some very old friends that I havent seen in a while, John and Sally Carter who Ive known since my last teens, bringing with them a superb cardamom cake which Sally had baked and a bag of the sweetest, juiciest greengages I have ever tasted - thanks guys! Ive also seen Ian and Janice Hogg, Adrian Lewis, someone Ive known since I was 16 and first getting into motorcycles, and my trusty buddies Jon Wood and Karlo Ispan. Had a strange turn on Wednesday this week when I awoke with a temperature. The nurses took blood for blood cultures and immediately started me on a course of broad spectrum antibiotics I had a very listless day sleeping and doing little else and then in the evening my temperature had climbed to 39.4*C and as I was trying to get to sleep I began with the rigors - uncontrollable shakes that were so violent the bed was rattling and I thought I was going to bite my tongue. I buzzed the nurses and they quickly got things under control by giving me IV Petherdrine which knocked me out and I woke the next morning feeling much better! I am now on book 18 of Bernard Cresswells Sharpe series but even reading is becoming boring. I think I need a new hobby! xxx Forgot to mention that I received a surprise card from Coronation Street cast and crew this week with photo and over 100 signatures. Thanks to all my Corrie friends and colleagues! xx
