Sunday 26th October 2014 Great Danes Lions - v - FC Clacton Today we played away to last years league winners Great Danes Lions and to date they had won all their games of the season. Both Great Danes and FC Clactons teams were thin on the ground due to injuries, so all players had to work their socks off today as no substitutions could be made. From the offset of the whistle, possession was 50/50 with both teams hungry to dominate play. Danes were first to have an attempt at goal, but thankfully for Aimee Sharpes super goalkeeping skills, she managed to keep the score at 0-0. However, this was all about to change when Laura Goldsmith broke free along the wing and crossed a tidy ball into the box, the Danes keeper tapped the ball out but into the path of Brooke Buxton who ceased the opportunity to put FC Clacton ahead of the game, and chipped the ball firmly in the back of the net. Aimee Sharpe continued to display some great saves throughout the first half and all our defence, midfield and strikers battled tirelessly to keep Clacton in the lead and we ended the first half Great Danes 0 - FC Clacton 1. Becky McDougall looked likely to increase the score line, but unfortunately hit the post. However, it wasnt long before Becky got her goal, which was created by some really beautiful linking up between, Laura Goldsmith who passed to Brooke Buxton, who in turn passed the ball to Becky to finish giving FC Clacton a 2 goal lead of the mighty Danes. Danes were then able to grab a goal back 15 minutes into the second half. All FC Clactons spectators were agitated for the full time whistle which seemed to take hours. We held our breaths when, Danielle Knappett in defence was unable to stop the Danes Striker, who accidentally clipped Danielles heel sending her flying, we then saw her one on one with keeper Aimee Sharpe, who struck at goal, but fortunately for Clacton, Aimee made another great save. A sigh of relief was made by all, when the referee blew the whistle and FC Clacton came away victorious with a 1-2 win. Every single player, should feel extremely proud, it was evident how hungry you were for this win and with no subs, you all worked so hard. We are the first team in the league to beat the Danes to date, so that in itself is a magnificent achievement and with West Ham beating Manchester City 2-1 and FC Clacton beating Great Danes Lions, it has been a fantastic weekend of football!
