Sunday 28th September 2014 news • Farmers in Kasama’s Mubanga Chipoya village have warned that government should not take them for granted. Holipa Chanda who spoke on behalf of farmers who stormed Radio Mano yesterday, threatened that government should not take their patience of not paying them for the maize they sold to the Food Reserve Agency on time for granted. Ms Chanda accused government of not being honest regarding the statements it is making on the payments of farmers. She aid efforts to seek audience with the office of the District Commissioner and that of the regional Permanent Secretary proved futile. Ms Chanda has since threatened to withdraw the bags of maize she supplied in July to the Food Reserve Agency ************************* • In a related development, farmers in Senga Hill in Mbala District have equally cried foul over the delay by government to pay them for the maize supplied to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA). Farmers told Mano News yesterday that the delay to receive their dues has affected them negatively. They have since challenged government through the FRA to quicken the process of clearing their payments. Meanwhile, Mbala District Commissioner Best Kabulembe has described the delay to pay farmers as regrettable. Mr Kabulembe hoped that farmers could be paid in time so that they can prepare for the next farming. ************************* • The police command in Northern Province has advised parents and guardians to ensure that toddlers are kept away from busy roads. Regional Police Commissioner Charity Katanga said it is lamentable children at a tender age were being found along high ways without anyone to attend to them. Commissioner Katanga’s caution comes in the wake of an accident in Mungwi where a four year old child was bashed by a vehicle igniting unrest among residents in the area. She has since warned members of the public against taking the law into their hands saying blocking the road was not a solution. Recently another four year-old child was bashed to death by a Marcopolo Bus on the Kasama-Mbala Road. ************************* • President Michael Sata has arrived back home from New York where he had led a delegation to the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. According to the statehouse Facebook page, the plane carrying touched down at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport this morning He was accompanied by First Lady Dr Christine Kaseba, State House Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations George and state house officials. He was welcomed by Defence and Justice Minister Edgar Lungu, vice president Guy Scott and other ministers. Before leaving New York, President Sata held a meeting with his Ministers who attended the UN General Assembly and took time to ask each Minister to explain about the meetings they attended. ************************* • The Patriotic Front says the youths are key partners in the country’s social and economic development Home Affairs Minister, who is also PF National Poverty Reduction Chairperson, Ngosa Simbyakula said this in a speech read on his behalf by Northern Province Secretary, Everist Chela on the occasion to mark Lukashya Trades Training Institute’s 22nd Graduation Ceremony. Mr Chela said it is for this reason that his Government pays particular attention to the welfare of the youths. He stated that this can also be evidenced in the governments continued empowerment programs for the youths. Mr Chela added that the celebrations of the country’s golden jubilee could not have any meaning if access to education was a challenge. This year’s Graduation Ceremony was held under the theme celebrating 50 years of Quality Accessible Technical skills Training for Sustainable National Development. ******FOREIGN NEWS***** • Liberias chief medical officer has put herself under quarantine for 21 days, after one of her assistants died from the deadly Ebola virus. Bernice Dahn, a deputy health minister, said she had no symptoms but wanted to take every precaution. Ms Dahn told the BBC on yesterday that she herself had decided to go into quarantine and wanted to abide by that rule. She said she had not come into contact with any other infected people, apart from the office assistant who died this week, but wanted to take every precaution. The World Health Organisation (WHO) says more than 3,000 people have died from Ebola in West Africa. Liberia has been the worst hit by the disease, accounting for 1,830 deaths - 150 in the last two days alone. Health workers have been particularly vulnerable to the virus, which is spread by the infected bodily fluids of patients. ******ENDS******
