Sunday, April 27, 1-4p Free workshop: Solving landscape problems with native plants 1. Aggressive horticultural plants and alternatives: There are many plants that are available in nurseries despite being listed as noxious weeds, or widely considered harmful and invasive. These include plants that are often acquired in hopes of solving specific problems (screening, ground cover, slope retention.) We will review a list of plants best avoided, and present multiple alternatives for each, including some benign nonnatives and a number of native plants. 2. Right plant, right place: what can you plant on a dry, rocky spot, a low boggy spot, an unstable hillside, an area beset by deer, a wild margin where youd like to encourage wildlife? Well review a number of site-specific situations and suggest natives that work, along with a tour of an ongoing home landscape project. There will be a short break in the middle with coffee, tea and snacks provided. My co-presenter is Sally Manifold, long-time ecorestoration manager. The workshop will be held at Sallys home in the Poulsbo/Suquamish area. Contact me for more information, directions, and to reserve a spot: bi.horticulture@gmail, (360) 779-5002
