Sunday Assembly? What we Atheists really need is an ad campaign from some sharp and fresh Marketing professionals. We need a newer and better image ASAP, and we need all the help we can get to become accepted like the LGBT, Minority, Immigrant and other once frowned upon communities. We need religious orders out of our policy making business. We don’t need acceptance for our own peace of mind but for the minds of other competitive communities. Remember each of the thousand man made religions, think they are Gods chosen people and they are right. “Us and Them” has created every holy War, Crusade, Jihad and conflict our real world has ever known. Each in the name of a thousand different gods. What even the newest of Islamic, Christian and Jewish structures have is many centuries of head start; on building communities, raising awareness and meeting with like-minded people. We are not a Christian Nation as many of our countrymen suggest. However they are right, we are still a nation of mostly Christians. We each know rounding up a room full, not to mention a congregation of Non Believers is like trying to harness Niagara Falls with a one gallon bucket? This is an ineffective scheme. We, FreeThinkers, think too much. We Non believers are too sceptical. We Atheists and Agnostics cannot be harnessed. But we need to get our First Amendment Act together. The Catholic Church has got a 16 century head start and the Islamic nations have a 1300 year false start on organizing their congregations. Lets organize our newer and more truthful congress. We need to do better. We need to create community and not Dogmatic bureaucracy. Sure we do need some Hierarchy but not Hypocrisy. We need each person in a very particular, special and secular way. We are a great society that needs each others’ skills, ambition and knowledge. No Christian, Islamic or Jewish structure can place a patent, trademark or copyright on Community. Let’s give this Sunday Assembly a try? Let us work together like a real congregation for a while and get this ship into real space and time. Let us combine just a fraction of our amalgamated talents. Lets get the Marketing majors to beat the drum of a new Atheist community. One that is based in reason and upon logic. One that can survive even when its most valued members have passed away. We each know we will not live forever and that fact alone makes this type of Assembly quite different from every dogmatic church. Let us allow the; Adventists, Baptists, Catholic, Christian, Episcopal, Fundamentalist, God’s, Lutheran, Methodist, Orthodox Pentecostal, Reformed and the hundred other churches to remain splintered, and under the guise of their invisible and non demonstrable gods... Let Them remain fragmented in every accord. Perhaps the Secular Coalition for America, Skeptic groups, Science clubs, FreeThinkers, Agnostics or Logic and Reason groups, can unite under the proof of truth, fact, knowledge, compassion and empathy for all, rather than just My kind or Your kind? We can unite under the realty of reason, logic and science. Sunday assemblies are not for everyone, but they can be suited for many. Sunday Assembly is the perfect excuse to meet other people. Sunday congress is a day of rest and relaxation, sports and leisure. The Religionists have their Sabbath. For many this is a time of gathering. We can pray to a real and fruitful future, rather than to a deity that has never “been there and done that” yet. Let us pray in the name of the Lord, to our Flying Spaghetti Man in the sky. The nicest thing about Sunday Assembly is that you can believe this congress can make something good happen...
