Sunday, August 17, 2014 Today is 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Gospel: Mt 15:21-28 Jesus and the Canaanite Woman. I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. But the woman came and did him homage, saying, Lord help me. He said in reply, It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs. She said, Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters. Jesus said to her in reply, O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish. Reflection: The woman is not discouraged. Her love for her daughter is so great that she fights to the finish, staking even when whatever self-respect she has left. And this human love, broken by sorrow, conquers Jesus. The womans great faith earns her an instantaneous cure of her daughter. God will not turn a deaf ear if a person is dead serious about what one really asks of God. Amen.
