Sunday Night Pizza – No. 80 – July 27, 2014 “My sin oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, O my soul!” - Horatio Spafford, “It is Well” It is the greatest thing in the world to be a Christian at WestRidge! What a great, great day at WestRidge! We had several visitors today whom you made feel welcome, Warren led us in an incredible song service, Bill Bailey had some inspiring thoughts prior to partaking of the Lord’s Supper, and Barry challenged all of us to be willing to get outside of our comfort zone in our service for the Lord. We also had an opportunity to pray together as a family for Denise Clark, who asked for the prayers of the church. I thought Barry’s lesson this morning was timely and spot on. We as a church, and as a brotherhood of believers have become to complacent, to willing to stay inside our shell. Barry reminded us life inside a comfort zone, is life outside of God’s will, that sharing our faith needs to be a priority. We need to ask ourselves, who have we shared the Gospel with in the last week, or the last month or the last year? Has there been anyone? As 1 Peter 4 reminds us, we have all, without exception, been given spiritual gifts, and we risk being thrown in the fire if we do not use then. Marilyn and I went to the area-wide song service held at the Fowler Center on the ASU campus this evening, and what an event it was! There were over 1,000 people from churches all over northeast Arkansas and southeast Missouri in attendance, lifting up their voices as one in praise to God. We sang old songs and new songs, familiar songs and some that were not as familiar. One of the songs we sang was a fairly new song written several years ago by Annie Herring entitled, “There is A Stirring.” I am inclosing a youtube link to the song as done by the Freed-Hardeman acapella chorus. I really think we need to learn it for our worship use. Here is the link: youtube/watch?v=Kbb2u_OcabM The next-to-last song we sang was “O Lord Our Lord,” which is one of the most incredible praise songs of all time. It helps to have powerful sopranos, but it is certainly not necessary. I cannot believe it is not in our book. I believe when we get to heaven, the multitude of those saved by God’s grace will spend a great deal of time singing praises to God the Father. I know 1,000 or so folks singing praises together at the Fowler Center is not heaven, but it was beautiful, and gave all of us a small glimpse of what heaven is going to be like. Time and time again, the WestRidge church has been challenged, and time and time again you have responded. The annual “Backpack 2 School” will be at our building this coming Saturday morning beginning at 9a. We were charged with donating 1.000 packages of paper for those students in need, and your generosity, your giving spirit came through as we exceeded our goal, which should allow us to give even more notebook paper than originally planned to these students. Praise God we have a church full of believers who put their faith into action. We still need a few helpers on Saturday, so don’t hesitate to call the church office this week to see how you can help. You may have read or heard in the last day or two about Dr. Kent Brantly, an American aid doctor in Monrovia who is helping treat Ebola victims in Monrovia. It was disclosed on Saturday the 33-year-old Dr. Brantly, who is from Indianapolis, had become infected with the deadly disease, which generally has a mortality rate of close to 90 percent. His family is soliciting as many prayers as they can from all of those whose faith is in Christ. For many years, Dr. Brantly’s mother, her siblings and parents lived across the street from Marilyn and her family in Florence, Ala. Keep Reagan Hinsley in your prayers this week, as well as her mother and she awaits the results on her biopsy to rule out lymphoma. Her mother, Karen Britt also has some health issues, and her father, Brian Hinsley, requests prayers for strength and peace during Reagan’s ordeal. Also remember Tara Sharp’s father, Cloyce Burrow, who will have surgery later this week, as well as Lin Hatch and Burley Bennett, and Tammy Story’s father. Also remember Braxton Hogland, who did get to come home from Children’s Hospital this past week. Wasn’t it great to see Shirley Chester and Billie Jean Smith this morning! Miss Shirley left a few minutes early, so I know many of you missed her, but what an encouragement to see those two women. Have a great week. Look out for each other, encourage each other, and love each other. Seek out ways to serve. See you in small groups on Wednesday night as we continue our study of the Parables. Grace and peace to you. Dalton
