Sunday September 7th was alway going to be an emotional day for white swans. With it being Dave Harveys last match as a white swans cricketer. White swans won the toss against octopus and decided to bat first. Why not after all, all of our five victories in a row in the 35 over format had come from batting first. It didnt start well. A combination of great bowling, inconsistent bounce and poor shot selection, meant the innings never got started. We only just passed our worst ever score of 28 when we reached 29-8 after about 8 overs. Some resistance from myself(fruit machine dan) along with Paul and Ian meant we finished on 45 all out. Theres was never really any real chance of us bowling octopus out for under 45. MOM not decided as you cant nominate yourself. Unfortunately our reduced bowling attack only managed to take 1 wicket. With the score being chased in just over 8 overs. There was as expected still plenty of time remaining in the day. So we decided to play a 20/20 match. Having given away 201 when this time fielding first. We sought about chasing what we deemed to be a very tough ask. Getting a lot closer than we had expected finishing on 164-8. Paul retiring with 2 balls to spare, so Dave Harvey could finish his last day as a whites swans player with bat in hand. Poetically he smashed, his first ball straight down the ground for four. With him and Ian scampering a two off the final ball to produce a much more credible score.MOM Dave Harvey for the boundary strike. The best shot of the day. All in all a great way to bid farewell to Dave Harvey. White swans legend. And after a couple of hours of intense drinking it was done. Thanks Harvey for everything mate. You are a legend and will never be forgotten. Just dont forget to come down whenever you can.
