Sunday rant: Why can society not accept women in their reality? In the perfect programmed world, no one ages and thigh gaps are the new black. Even Madonna, hobbling her way toward 60, is airbrushed back to a thirty-something image she didnt achieve when she was thirty-something. What is the real message here? Who does this disempower? Women and girls, who struggle with anorexia and bulimia because they are forever trying to fit an image that really doesnt exist (ps - eff you, Hefner)? Or men, who are bombarded with pictures of feminine perfection that they too could have if they were just a little richer or a bit more testosterone-driven? Heres a slide show of obviously photoshopped advertisements that are laughable in their over-the-top machinations. When I think of all the photoshopping that is out there - skillfully rendered and escaping detection, setting impossible standards for appearance and demeaning both its subject and viewers - I just want to hug my teenage granddaughters tight and tell them how very, very lovely they are in their realness, and that those pictures have been transmitted to us from the land of kissable frogs. https://shine.yahoo/photos/airbrushing-ads-horrible-bad-fail-1395432266-slideshow/
