Sunday school summary Topic-The christian motives Text-matthew 6:1-18 Memory verse-Matthew 6:6 Summary 1 Our giving,praying and service in the household of faith must be done with ulter sincerity if they were to further Christ kingdom.This topic under discourse features Christ dealing with wrong hypocritical practices.He touched on people using the synagogue and streets to present religious practices which do not emanate from their hearts and manifest the real part of their lives. Christians should abhore this type of religious practices.our religious devotion must express the following 1.It must emanate from a sincere heart. 2.Our relationship with God and man must be genuine 3.It must be a real possession,not merely outward profession in order to glorify God. Also,Jesus warned against doing the right thing in the wrong way.may be scriptural,but doing it in the wrong way may forfeit our heavenly Fathers reward.Precisely,our benevolence to people is not to be done to attract public attention.This is the practice of the hypocrite in order to get peoples honour,fame,as a result,they should not expect any further reward from heaven Advantages of secret giving 1.The recipient is relived from the pain of humiliation and does not present himself as an object o charity. 2.This enable him glorify God and be closer to Him. 3.Christ is inclined to reward us that our joy may be full and glorious,hence,any act that could abort this should be avoided. SECRET PRAYER Christ is not against united public prayer(ephesian 5:19-20,Hebrew 10:25)but denounced public show of the hypocrites who pray in the corner/market places to demonstrate how prayerful they were to people who were absent from the synagogue worship PRINCIPLES OF PRAYING 1.It must be done in the closet and direct to our needs. 2.In the public,it must be simple and brief and direct to our needs.Examples are Elijah on mount carmel and Jesus at Lazarus tomb(1 king 18:36-37,John 11:42-44) 3.Avoid mannerism and must be be meaningful 4.It must include our devotion,gratitude and thanksgiving to Him 5.Our mind and heart must be fixed on Him 6.Not to attract mans attention.No reward for this.
