Super Eagles player saves woman from mugger Comment By: Abass Ogundipe 16 minutes ago A Nigerian footballer in Rome saved a female tourist from being mugged by a teenager while having dinner with his brother at a restaurant downtown. According to eyewitnesses, a young lad appeared out of the blues, snatching the wallet of a woman who was sitting with other tourists, but before anyone could say "Jack Robison," he had taken flight. The footballer, who was sitting near the group, immediately stood up, giving the villain a hot chase before catching him after a 300 meters dash and a brief push and shove. A few minutes later, the young man, who turned out to be a Nigerian Footballer and Lazio player Eddy Onazi, dragged the mugger back to the restaurant and earned for himself a standing ovation from onlookers. Recounting the whole affair to Lazio Style Radio, the Super Eagles midfielder said, “I was having dinner with my brother near to the Termini Station and there were some tourists sitting next to us, I saw a boy and immediately felt due to his suspicious behaviour that he wanted to steal something. I didn’t even have time to tell my brother that he had already snatched the tourist’s wallet and run off. “ “I noticed it, so I ran after him, but stayed on the other side of the street. I ran for 300 metres, the mugger left the wallet under a car, but I saw him,” he added. “I chased him down and brought him back to the restaurant, avoiding the ire of the people around there. I told the restaurant owner to call the police and we brought the wallet back to the lady. She was in tears and thanked me, as the wallet was full of money. “At that point, seeing as the situation had been resolved, my brother and I left.” Today, Onazi turned a local hero has the news of his heroic exploit made headlines of major newspapers in Rome and many residents had encouraging words for the Lazio player who arrived Italy 2011. Meanwhile, the erring lad has since been handed over to the police.
