Superintendent’s Message: Dear Lammersville Unified Families, - TopicsExpress

Superintendent’s Message: Dear Lammersville Unified Families, There has not been a year in California state wide education where such significant policy changes at one time has occurred than our current one. This past December, our Board of Education adopted a new district wide Strategic Plan in response to the CCSS, however the Common Core is only one of many policy changes our district has been asked to address. Over the course of this school year we have been adapting to a new State system for funding schools called Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) and a new State accountability system for districts to explain their use of funding in support of identified student groups called Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). Each shift in policy has come with a new set of expectations and a need to explain the shift to our district’s stakeholders. We have already delivered a number of presentations based on the Strategic Plan and LCFF/LCAP. Presently, we are putting together a series of workshops for our parents and community members to continue to learn more about these policy changes and their impact to our educational system and students with a specific focus on the Common Core State Standards. This summer we will present details about the CCSS and its impact on our instructional program. We will emphasize the initiatives that have been launched or will be launched to support our teachers, administrators and especially our students as we adjust each part of our program to meet the expectations behind the Common Core. Much is to learn for all of us and the transition will take time as we adjust our systems and practices. We will continue to strive to meet the needs of all of our students as the central tenet of our Strategic Plan. One message is clear from state policy makers and it is that change has arrived and we are expected as a district to reach new heights for our students. The era of No Childe Left Behind has ended and our children will have a much different, 21st Century educational experience in the years to come. Dr. Nicholas
