We took a drive over to Copco Road where the wildfire went through, and saw a heartbreaking sight of destruction -- however, we DID talk to Alan Trautman for quite awhile, and he was in suprisingly GOOD spirits, although he had a badly burned hand. The high point of our conversation with Alan is that he said he went back after his house had burned and retrieved their kitten which survived by ducking for cover. ALSO, a jackrabbit thats been hanging around there survived, TOO, and Alan took him/her some alfalfa to eat, since all vegetation has burned off. However, as we were driving away (check out the last two pictures), we saw a forked horn buck, accompanied by a doe (strange for em to be together this time of year) out in the burned area, eating what appeared to be roasted leaves and cooked moss!
