Support dedicated and passionate undergraduates on Give to the Max - TopicsExpress

Support dedicated and passionate undergraduates on Give to the Max Day--such as English senior Marina Kuperman, whose experiential-based learning here is giving her a boost into her chosen profession: I took two English classes with lecturer Eric Daigre: Literacy and American Cultural Diversity and Community Internships. The first class masterfully linked literature focused on topics such as ethics, education, social justice and literacy with a service-learning component. Daigre created a synergy between the classroom and community sites where we volunteered, turning our class into a community of learners. This course confirmed my interest in teaching and inspired me to become an English major. In the second class, I transitioned from being a volunteer to being an intern and project leader. Accordingly, I taught two English courses a week at a nonprofit learning center in Minneapolis. There, I had the opportunity to implement my own lesson plans and to organize and execute monthly volunteer teacher breakfast meetings, which facilitated communication, collaboration, and overall improvement at the learning center. This course gave me invaluable experience in teaching, leadership, public speaking, and becoming a part of a community. Be a light for the Department of English on Give to the Max Day.
