Support for Governor Kasich’s proposed mid-biennium review from Lisa Hamler-Fugitt, executive director for the Ohio Association of Foodbanks: “On behalf of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks and the hundreds of thousands of Ohioans we serve every month through our emergency food programs and other programs, I want to applaud Governor Kasich for the proposals he has set forth in his Mid-Biennium Review related to vulnerable people in our state. “His proposal to establish an Office of Human Services Innovation within the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services holds much promise for improvement in the way our state delivers services and strengthens its families and communities. We are encouraged by Governor Kasich’s commitment to coordinating services to ensure that individuals and families do not fall through the cracks of our human services programs. “We also applaud his proposal to increase the state’s new Earned Income Tax Credit from 5 percent to 15 percent of the federal credit. We look forward to the potential for this tax credit to be made refundable in the future in order to help low-income Ohioans keep more of the money they earn. “Like Governor Kasich, we believe in the dignity of work and we strive to connect Ohioans with the work support programs they need to achieve household stability and move out of poverty. We thank Governor Kasich for his leadership and look forward to working with him to serve low-income Ohioans through a coordinated, person-centered approach.”
