Supreme Court Setback for Lungu The presumptive presidential - TopicsExpress

Supreme Court Setback for Lungu The presumptive presidential candidate of the Patriotic Front (PF) party suffered a setback today as the Supreme Court issued its ruling in the case where competing PF candidate Miles Sampa sought to invalidate his nomination. The Supreme Court has ruled that Deputy Minister of Commerce Miles Sampa and Bridget Atanga, the Patriotic Front Secretary General, should be added to proceedings at the High Court in a matter were he appealed against the Consent order of the High Court which declared Edgar Lungu as the Patriotic Front candidate in the coming Presidential elections. The Supreme Court has also ordered the matter to be heard by the High Court. For Lungu’s camp, it would have been preferable to have the Supreme Court clearly rule in their favour and dismiss Sampa’s claim, however now it is unlikely that the matter will be resolved by the courts before the filing of nomination papers before the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) this coming 17-19 of December. Under the current ruling, however, Lungu will remain the party presidential candidate until Sampa’s lawyers are able to make an application to set aside the consent judgement. zambiareports/2014/12/15/supreme-court-setback-lungu/
