Supreme court orders state government to pay compensation of Rs 20 lakh each to 21 students According to sources Supreme court has ordered state government to pay compensation of Rs. 20 lakhs each to 21 medical aspirant, who couldn’t take admission in MBBS in spite of having the required scores because of college authority. Reportedly in 2012, 21 eligible candidates couldn’t secure MBBS seat because of college authorities of private medical college, students reported to state government but no appropriate action was taken by state government. The aspirants, who had been pursuing their “eligible seats” for the past two years, lost the opportunity to pursue MBBS that year, as admissions could be approved only till September 30 of the relevant year and cannot be carried forward, the court added. Though the students had only demanded seats in their petition, the court took suo motu decision on compensating them for the loss of opportunity, said advocate Pravin Satale, who represented PNS.
