Surely this cant come as a big surprise to anyone. As a species weve made a fist of the world that supports our lives. But dont think you can just blame it on the elites, because there are strata of elites. And it wont be a universal collapse simultaneously everywhere. The problems will vary from area to area. Australia is particularly susceptible to oil shortages. A vast land requiring huge amounts of oil to transport and produce food. Do you have a months reserve of food in your pantry? You should. But all of us in the western nations are an elite in our own right. As the resources of the western nations deplete they shall strip the resources of the other lands. Id even suggest that has already been happening. Western owned farms in African lands, where the workers are starving and unable to buy the food being flown to us, so we can throw it out of our fridges a week or two later. Who thinks that is sustainable? Fresh flowers flown from South America for sale in the local shopping centre florist. Processing oil shale in Canada to produce oil to pipe to the United States, with environmental pollution beyond reckoning. Gas fracking. Land and water polluted for what is effectively forever in human terms. All so that people can have more things to clutter their lives? Yeah we will see that were okay for a few years more. Our Soylent Green will be made offshore. In the beginning anyhow.
