Susan and I are renovating our porch. We have painted and want to - TopicsExpress

Susan and I are renovating our porch. We have painted and want to put down new carpet tiles. There are some structural problems with the wood. Since we are replacing plywood we thought lets shore up the beams, fix the plumbing, and update the wiring. Today was adding shut off valves, heat tape, and modern insulation. The old insulation was paper over fiber glass. Interestingly it cost $.069 only $0.20 less than today. The most interesting find was the old steel pipe remnants. The house is 114 years old. So you think you might find history. They insulated the steel pipe with layers of newspaper. Hamberger was $0.22/#, womens wool panties were $1.05 (I bet those felt great?). The newspapers I salvaged were from the Huntington Advertiser September 6, and October 3, 1944. The first announces the Yanks crossing from France into Belgium the next notes Americas first scouting mission into German territory. Its amazing the person doing this was getting ready for winter not knowing how the war would come out.
