Susan for Senate District 26! Thanks to everyone for the support - TopicsExpress

Susan for Senate District 26! Thanks to everyone for the support I have been receiving for my campaign for Senate District 26. I met with 4 Utah State Delegates yesterday in Roosevelt. These are a few of the questions they asked me. 1. Why are you running for Senate District 26? I am candidate for Senate District 26 because I want to. My desire stems back to when I was about six years old. This is around the time grandpa was Uintah County Commissioner or running for commissioner. He asked me in his front room by the kitchen door if I wanted to be a Republican or a Democrat. I asked him what they were. He said one was a mule and the other was an elephant. I told him I wanted to be an elephant because of their great memories. I have always wanted to be in politics like my grandpa since that day! Note: I stayed up all night watching TV to see if grandpa won his race. I love our political system. 2. What do I think of charter schools? My granddaughter attended a charter school in Provo. What an outstanding school! Her school progress was well above state standards for her grade. I visited with my daughter-in-law, who has her doctorate in special education, about charter schools. She said that above average success would be the case in all charter schools that had qualified teachers and administrators. She said the same above average success happens in public schools that had qualified teachers and administrators.. The quality of teacher and administrator makes all the difference in a childs education. She also stated that parent involvement is a crucial part of a childs success in school. I know charter schools with qualified teachers and administrators are a viable education option in our state. I know that our public schools are a viable education option in our state. I know that home schooling is a viable option in our state. The known way students get a great education in our state is because of parent involvement, qualified teachers and administrators, student desire and educational opportunities available of every kind to every learner in our state. 3. An agency that serves the needs of members of our community has not received at increase in money from the legislature for the last 10 years. Why not? There is only one pie (tax dollars) that can be cut. The size of the piece of the pie you get depends on the $ amount made available by the legislature. Right now education and roads are receiving big pieces of the pie because of need and the return in value for $ spent. Thanks to the four state delegates that gave their time for me to get to know them, answer their questions, and learn their stand on Utah Senate District 26 issues!
