Susans 12th ct scan was clean two weeks ago & recently marked 4.5 - TopicsExpress

Susans 12th ct scan was clean two weeks ago & recently marked 4.5 years out of the whipple procedure in which Dr North removed part of her pancreas, gall bladder, spleen, duodenum, & a number of lymph nodes. We planned to take our grandson & nephew to Disneyworld no matter what the results of the scan showed, so on Wednesday the 15th we packed the car, set the cruise control & made the 9 hour trip to Florida. On Thursday, we visited Epcot with the boys & rode Test Track & Soarin, in addition to other less strenuous rides. We spent much of the day Friday at Hollywood Studios & rode the Rock n Roller Coaster & the Tower of Terror with no issues except fatigue. Our last day at Disneyworld on Saturday started out much the same as the other days, no rush to get going, have a good breakfast, & have no pressure to get to the Magic Kingdom before everyone else. Once we arrived, we headed to Tomorrowland to check on the Buzz Lightyear ride & Space Mountain. The line was long at Buzz, but the Space Mountain wait time was only 20 minutes, so we decided to start there. During the ride Susan was thrown around pretty violently, neither of us remembers it being this herky jerky in the past nor as dark inside Space Mountain, & her mid-section began hurting during the ride. She was in pain when the ride ended & only rode very tame rides until lunch, after which we took her back to the room. She had a lot of trouble getting comfortable the rest of the day & just didnt feel good. Sunday morning, she felt ok until we had been on the road toward home for about 30-45 minutes. Then she started feeling a bit feverish & like a tight band was around her waist. She was sick on her stomach after lunch, but was able to keep her food down long enough that no food came back up. It was a long ride home for her, but we finally pulled in the driveway around 7:30 Sunday evening. She had a fever that spiked to 103.5. Sunday night she slept restlessly & Monday she called her oncologists office to report the fever & the pain in her abdomen area, which started the inevitable series of tests & dr visits. The first blood work on Wednesday showed her bilirubin level was elevated way out (3.6) of her normal (0.8) & 2 other liver function tests showed elevated levels as well. She ran a continuous high fever until Wednesdays primary care dr visit showed it was low grade. An Ultra-sound was scheduled for Thursday to check for anything obvious, & thankfully no trace of cancer was found but no conclusion about her injury or illness was reached either. Another round of blood work was planned for Friday & her whipple surgeon wanted to see her at 1pm as well. Results of her blood work on Friday morning showed that the bilirubin count had come down below 3.0 & the other levels were coming down as well. Dr North checked for a hernia, but came to the unofficial conclusion that the Space Mountain ride had bruised her liver. On Monday of this week, another blood test was scheduled & it showed 2 of the three liver levels were better, but her oncologist wanted her to have a MRI on Tuesday to check her abdominal area thoroughly. The MRI showed an area of concern in her liver. According to Dr Jones at oncology, it could be blood vessels, tissue, or a tumor. A more detailed MRI is scheduled for this afternoon @6pm to determine which of the three we are dealing with, but we believe it is an injury that just needs to heal. She feels a little better each day so that is a positive sign, but is a long way from feeling normal. She says she will never ride anything rougher the Voyage of the Little Mermaid again & after two Dr visits, two scans thus far, & three panels of blood work, feels like she has been riding Space Mountain for the last twelve days & it is the ride that never ends.
