Suspects in Bomb Threat Case Indicted this Week: MAYS LANDING – A man and woman from Vineland were indicted for bomb threats made in February of this year that caused the evacuation of two Hamilton Township schools and the Atlantic County Criminal Courthouse, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced today. Today, Raheem H. Brown, a 36 year-old male, and Kemon Powell, a 40 year-old female, both of the 800 block of East Wood Street, Vineland, NJ, were each indicted for four (4) counts of terroristic threats, three (3) counts of false public alarm, and one (1) count of conspiracy, in connection with telephoned threats made on Feb. 4, 2014 that bombs had been placed in three Mays Landing public buildings and that a Superior Court Judge would be harmed. On Feb. 4 at 10:58 a.m., law enforcement officers from the Hamilton Township Police Department and Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Atlantic County Criminal Courthouse and the Hess Middle School when telephoned threats were made that bombs had been placed in the buildings, and that a Superior Court Judge would be harmed. The structures were evacuated and cleared by bomb-detection K9 teams. No explosive devices were found. Two hours later another telephoned bomb threat was made to the Shaner Elementary School in Mays Landing. The school was evacuated and cleared by bomb-detection K9 teams, with no explosive devices found. The Atlantic County Special Services School and the Atlantic County Institute of Technology (ACIT) were placed in lock-down and also cleared by law enforcement. The Hamilton Township Police Department investigation led to the Feb. 6 arrest of Raheem H. Brown at his Vineland residence, and the March 11 arrest of Kemon Powell. Both defendants remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Brown is lodged in lieu of $500,000 cash bail. Powell is lodged in lieu of $200,000 bail, cash or bond. Assistant Prosecutor Michael Mazur represented the State in the case.
