Sv: In Seinfeld voice: What’s the deal with opera singers? Vibrato is such an evocative, emotionally effective way to colour the delivery of a note. You can sing it as a straight line all the way through or start to wiggle it somewhere - the beginning, the middle, the end. You can vary the depth and rate of the wiggle. Accelerate through a turn, spin up to a great height or twirl down to a soft or crash landing. You can remain maniacally stoic and unwavering in moments of great emotion, undulate gently like grass in a light wind, or zig zag violently like a car with a blown out tire. With that palette of options, why is it that so many of the opera singers I’ve heard sound like they cranked the vibrato’s depth and halved the speed knob on a Super Reverb and left them there the whole time?
