Sweat dripped down into my eyes, drops of it being unceremoniously - TopicsExpress

Sweat dripped down into my eyes, drops of it being unceremoniously flung from my eyelashes as my body was jarred by the repetitious impact of blade-on-blade while I dodged and parried the strikes of my instructor. I was, without a doubt, beginning to grow irritated with the ceaseless hale of blows, of which less than a handful had managed to get past my defences. The constant and inescapable clang! of two swords colliding reverberated through my head, quickly numbing all sense of thought and hearing alike. Alongside this particular annoyance was also the fact that my face was to the sun, making it ever more difficult for me to raise my sword in time to block each relentless assault. Regardless of how weary I was of the exercise, Master Canon had instructed me to defend myself only, expressly forbidding retaliation. And so of course, in my mind I was looking for some sort of loophole, something in the way that he phrased his instructions or some small piece of advice. Something that I could use, ironically, in my defence once I’d struck back and no doubt had earned the anger of my instructor. Eventually I did stumble upon something that Canon had once said, a little thing that he would be sure to remember as he had impressed the importance of it upon me when it was first said. The exhaustion that had begun to creep into my sword arm slowly fell away, and I forced myself to keep the smirk off my face, lest he suspect something amiss.
