Still on ASUU and FG Nigerians need “educated” leaders. I - TopicsExpress

Still on ASUU and FG Nigerians need “educated” leaders. I mean leaders who did not only go to school but can reason effectively and engage in constructive intellectual interactions- people who can argue their cases without whipping sentiments and relying on the people’s ignorance to deceive them. Wike and Okupe should know that they will fade into oblivion when Nigerians begin to independently access and analyse situations. The Doyin Okupes and Nyesome Wike are invited to understand the following: 1. That 60% of ASUU branches voted in favour of ending the strike does not say it all. These 60% added a set of conditions which concerns extracting confidence from Jonathan’s promises. This is why the 60% did not suspend the strike in protests of the leadership’s final position after the leadership’s meeting. The conditions they gave have not been satisfied. Invariably, the 60% and the 40% were and remain on the same page. 2. ASUU is not a union. of lazy members; ASUU members love to work: they love to acquire new knowledge; they like to give effective training to the leaders of tomorrow (of course, that’s why they are on strike). ASUU leadership did not waste time in calling for a meeting after the marathon interaction with the President. It was the death of Iyayi that delayed the meeting. The accusation by Okupe that ASUU wasted time before reaching a resolution shows how sensitive the FG is to the Ilayis and the entire Nigerian education community. FG seems to lack respect for the excellence that Iyayi stood for, little wonder, it hopes to recruit traders/artisans into our classrooms and laboratories. 3. ASUU leadership does not make decisions on behalf of her members; they relay the decisions of their members. 4. That a school decides to resume does not mean that the ASUU branch of that university has called off/suspended the strike in that branch.( I think that this clarification is also good for journalists too as they seem to insinuate the suspension of the action/a break in ranks anytime a university announces resumption). Universities can decide to announce resumption even without ASUU suspending the action. It is important to attempt to know if such resumption is based on an ASUU decision (which is a determinate of whether or not the resumption is for academic activities). 5. That Jonathan met with ASUU leadership is not enough to compel/convince the union to suspend the action. The questions are: what did Jonathan offer, how sincere is he and how much trust do we have in him going by antecedents? 6. ASUU is not fighting for money to put in its pocket. ASUU is asking for money to be injected into our universities so that the children of the common man can access the same quality of education that our politicians send their children to acquire in other countries (of course with our money). A word for our leaders: You claim to love our education sector, how many of your children/grand children are schooling in Nigerian public universities? Tell people the truth…. You are failing the people…. You are banking on their ignorance but it is certain that with time they will learn and life may become unbearable for our liars (or leaders?) thereafter. Mind you that you can deceive some people all the time, u can deceive all the people some time but u cannot deceive all the people all the time (apologies to Bob Marley).
