Sweet Land of Liberty I am learning much from todays attempt at provocation regarding what I see as Glenn Beck and crew trying to hold themselves up as the arbiters of morality which they have claimed for themselves. The target of the vitriol for today (tomorrow it could be me or you) is Cliven Bundy. It was pointed out very clearly that the in crowd at the top of that pretty insular bunch (the LDS Church) hold a extremely tight reign on those who want to stay in or connected - aka - blessed by being part of the group. To step outside is barely tolerated, to dissent publicly is met with derision, and public attacks like the recent Glenn Beck lunatic ranting over the sins of Cliven Bundy may result. I am not particularly interested in what faux pas the gentleman has been party to or participant in in the recent or distant past. I have seen what he did in standing up to the government and I applaud him for it. End of story. It would be good if it were really the end of the story. But what I have seen is people who up until this point in time I thought were just regular everyday Americans turning into hateful hurlers of vitriol and crap. Expanding words into new and unprecedented shapes, rendering them brand new in their meanings. In other words totally misrepresenting what was said. But never let the facts get in the way of the emotional outpouring of love at the root of your faith. I did say love didnt I. I must be deluding myself into thinking that folks projecting their love onto me must be at a loss for words to express it. The words used were far from loving or respectful, seeming more spiteful and hateful than anything else. But life goes on and we learn. As to the threats, I will not report them. I like handling that sort of thing myself. Casper milquetoast I am not. - Dr. Jim Garrow -
