Sweet SLEEP tonight I DECLARE: .... Ive heard from Psalm 4 in which the Psalmist says,”I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.” I don’t know what it is about getting a good night’s sleep but the Scripture testifies to it in many places as evidence of God’s blessing. In Leviticus 26, when God describes the blessings of the covenant, He says, ‘If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments, and perform them…I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none will make you afraid” (vv.3,6). It is a blessing of the covenant; you will be able to sleep because, God says, “I will be the peace of your mind.” In the Psalm right before this, the Psalmist has said this-he is surrounded by war, a similar situation as the one in Psalm 4 but he says, “I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around” (Psalm 3:5-6). The people are there round a bout and they are there to harm him but he has laid down and slept and he has risen given the blessing of a good night’s sleep. Psalm 127 has a similar message, “It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep (v. 2)”. It is a tangible outworking of our trust in the Lord, a very, very practical one. When we lie awake tossing and turning, wondering whatever shall we do, how shall this turn out, it is in fact evidence that our faith is very weak indeed. The one who prays to the God of heaven and knows that only He can give him deliverance and safety, only He can break him out of the narrow defile, puts that at His feet. “You shall deliver me. I have not even asked You for specific blessings because I know that you will bless as is best and I will lie down tonight and I will sleep in the midst of the problem, in the midst of the attack. I will enjoy the blessing of the covenant because I trust in You.” #Eric_Vaughn_Washington #Universal_Pentecostal_Movement
