Swinging leg, solid leg and SADDLE FIT---A discussion worth having. Several years ago, Steve Day, owner of Dover Saddlery, brought several riders and about 15 saddles to Tamarack. We supplied a few horses.He was developing a new saddle, and he wanted to assess balance points, various other technical features, of the various saddles. Now heres the point---Some saddles, irrespective of price or prestige/popularity made you feel like Bill Steinkraus (relatively--haha), while in others, you felt as if you were getting pitched all over the place, and that you could barely ride. And it was personal---What might fit one was a disaster for another. In these 2 40 plus year old photos, where my leg was swinging, compared to the much more orthodox leg I later developed, much was my ignorance and lack of technique, sure, but some of it was not having the right saddle, versus having it later. GET A GOOD SADDLE for YOU!!! It can make such a world of difference. ALWAYS blame your tack!! You may actually be right!!
