Synthia SAINT JAMES is a world renowned multicultural visual artist, an award winning author and or illustrator of 17 childrens books, and author of 3 poetry books, a book of affirmations, a cookbook, a play, and the autobiographical book titled Living My Dream: An Artistic Approach to Marketing, which was nominated for the 2012 NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Literary Work - Instructional. She is also a popular keynote speaker, educator and architectural designer who has garnered numerous awards, including the prestigious Trumpet Award, the YWCA Silver Achievement Award, a Honorary Doctorate degree from Saint Augustines University, and she was inducted into National Association of Woman Business Owners Hall of Fame in 2010. SAINT JAMES also serves as a Global Ambassador for Susan G. Komen for the Cures Circle of Promise. She is most celebrated for designing the first Kwanzaa Stamp for the United States Postal Service in 1997, for which she received a History Maker Award, and for the international cover art for Terry McMillans book Waiting to Exhale. However, very few know that her artwork has been internationally featured in several United States Embassies through the Art in Embassies Program since the 1990s. SAINT JAMES, a highly commissioned artist, continues to create paintings for private collectors, colleges, universities and for corporations. The House of Seagram, Coca Cola USA, Maybelline, Essence Communications, National Coalition of 100 Black Men, Glendale Memorial Hospital, YWCA of Greater Los Angeles, and Barnes & Nobles represent a mere sampling. This year she has created commissioned signature paintings for three college/university presidents. The paintings celebrate the inaugurations of Dr. Rosalind Fuse-Hall, Bennett College, Dr. Gwendolyn E. Boyd, Alabama State University and Dr. Roslyn Clark Artis, Florida Memorial University. The original paintings and fine art reproductions are being unveiled at special events during each presidents inauguration ceremonies during the months of September and October, 2014. Her most celebrated collectors include Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr., Alice Walker, Glynn Turman, Brenda Russell, Regina Taylor, Charles Fuller and Jenifer Lewis. Awards created by Synthia SAINT JAMES include the We See You Award, the Mosaic Woman Award, and The Lifetime Achievement Award especially created for His Excellency Nelson Mandela from Africare in 2010. Dr. Synthia SAINT JAMES, in celebration of her 45th anniversary as a professional artist, is currently booking her Fall 2014 - Fall 2015 College and University Tour, which includes lectures, commencement speeches, master classes, exhibitions, commissions, and artist-in-residencies.
