TA1 - TA1 is nothing short of leisurely this morning. Support crews have taken up residence, with little to do in between leg 2 - the split orienteering/swimming leg. There are sandwiches and coffees a-plenty amidst the sea of four wheel drives laden with sea kayaks. Out on course though the competition is fierce. The field has split quickly with Seagate charging out in front in typical Seagate style. Mountain Designs, Rogue, Peak adventure, Outer Limits and Adventure Junkies are not far behind. With Peak Adventure - always strong on foot and with a compass - overtaking several of the top teams to jump up into second. Those in the know will be watching the opening legs keenly. Part of Seagates strength, undoubtedly lies in their reputation. Theyre renowned for strong starts. In Warren Bates words they bully and intimidate the field with a strong opening that invariably leaves teams feeling like the best they can do is second. Theres no doubt the veteran foursomes that make up teams like Mountain Designs and Peak Adventure, know this well. Seagate are rarely beaten in the opening legs. But with only 200m separating the top three teams we cant help but wonder if a long-standing precedent is about to be broken...
