TALK vs. WALK? I met a woman recently who hosted Watts (along with the famous Buddhist monk, Shundryu Suzuki) at her home in Santa Barbara. She was greatly offended by Watts behavior. He appeared to use his wisdom and fame mostly to get laid. His dalliances with female fans numbered literally in the thousands. The question is, does this diminish the power of his insights? My Buddhist philosophy professor, whom I greatly respected, and who also knew Watts personally, would have nothing to do with the promulgation of his thought, as if the thought itself was tainted and spoiled by the life of the man.
